"To me, there is no greater priority as a medical care provider than the patient, their opinion and the professional trust we are able to create. Every consultation begins with an open, safe and extensive discussion with the patient and their loved ones. I believe strongly that patients make the best decision for their own health, and they make those best decisions when they have all the available information and feel supported by their doctor and multidisciplinary care team.
Particularly, I am passionate that patients from Western Sydney should be able to receive outstanding treatment within area. For many years I have worked to advocate for Macarthur breast cancer patients to receive modern surgery and reconstruction techniques, together with state of the art Radiotherapy, Chemotherapy, Endocrine and other options through the award-winning Campbelltown Hospital Cancer Therapy Centre, supported by the caring and experienced McGrath Breast Cancer Nurses.”

“As a young trainee surgeon I found myself in sweltering Darwin for a surgical rotation – it was six months in which you either very quickly learnt to swim or drowned trying.
One night a young man was rushed into emergency after a motorbike accident. He had a bleed on the brain and without enough time to transport him to larger hospital for treatment, it was up to me to perform immediate surgery to relieve the pressure and save his life. The only problem was that as a trainee surgeon I’d never seen, let alone performed, brain surgery. Desperate, I called the neurosurgeon at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and asked for his help. With the nurse holding the phone to my ear, the neurosurgeon guided me step by step as I successfully performed the surgery.
From then on I have taken delight to tell those who would listen of the time I performed ‘Brain Surgery Over the Phone’. It is a memory that stands out over my career, most notably because it ended happily for the patient. Though, my blood pressure required some serious recovery time”.
